Qld Corrective Services – Wacol 50m Open Range Upgrade

BOUW has been engaged by PDT Architects to provide specialist range planning and ballistic safety advice in respect of a new steel bullet trap intended to be retrofitted to the existing 50m Open Range. BOUW engaged with Corrections stakeholders to fully understand range operational and usage requirements then undertook field investigations of other similar bullet traps of non-proprietary design to peer review the concept provided, resulting in further enhancements recommended. 

BOUW’s Range Safety specialist applied specialist knowledge and understanding to provide:


  • Design assessment and expert peer review
  • Range Danger Area templating
  • Bullet trap design


BOUW has been able to expertly assess an innovative approach to the specific ballistic containment requirements of Corrections to add value to a bespoke, value for money solution that will reduce long term maintenance effort and cost, improve safety and environmental outcomes, and simplify resource recovery
